This 12-day itinerary is the quintessential example of a top-notch Northern Circuit safari experience combined with a luxurious beach holiday. With its visit to the Southern Serengeti, this safari is especially of interest from mid-December to mid-March, when you have excellent chances of witnessing the Great Wildebeest Migration right on your doorstep! Upon arrival in the safari capital of Arusha, enjoy the chance to recharge your batteries with an overnight at a working coffee plantation before hitting the safari circuit. You will spend the first couple of days of your safari exploring Tarangire National Park, where you will have ample time to see the park’s magnificent herds of elephants and marvel at the majestic baobab trees, a large proportion of which are more than 1,000 years old. From here you will travel to the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest unbroken caldera, formed 2.5 million years ago. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to some 25,000 animals and is densely populated with predators. It is one of the only places in Tanzania where you can actually succeed in spotting the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and buffalo), and has East Africa’s largest population of black rhino. En-route to the crater, you will have the chance to learn about one of Tanzania’s most famous tribes – the Maasai – by visiting a local Maasai village. The wildlife excitement continues as you head into the Serengeti National Park. 1 night Arusha Coffee Lodge, Arusha

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport where you will be welcomed and transferred to The Arusha Coffee Lodge. Here you will enjoy a complimentary upgrade to one of the twelve Plantation Suites.

2 nights Tarangire Treetops

After a leisurely breakfast enjoy a Coffee Estate tour and then an al fresco lunch in the garden. After lunch you will be chauffeured to Arusha Airport to board the Elewana Executive Grand Caravan and fly to Kuro Airstrip in Tarangire National Park. At the airstrip, the Tarangire Treetops team will meet you for an afternoon game drive in Tarangire National Park after which you will enter through Treetops’ private reserve.

Tarangire Treetops has twenty spacious thatched tree houses built on high platforms around enormous baobab trees; they are literally in the treetops. Each has an en suite shower, sitting area with writing desk and private wraparound veranda with expansive bush views. Day 6 and 7

2 nights Serengeti Migration Camp

Today you have the option of visiting the Lake Manyara National Park or staying at the lodge to explore the estate. Choose from a host of activities including horseback riding, cycling, an estate tour, a massage treatment (1 treatment per person) or, you may opt to just relax.

After lunch you will be driven to the Manyara airstrip for your onward flight to the Serengeti, where, upon arrival, you will be met by the Migration Camp team.

The afternoon will be spent on a game drive to arrive at Serengeti Migration Camp in time for sundowners.

The next day, you will spend the full day exploring the vast Serengeti. Enjoy a bush lunch, after which the afternoon will be spent game viewing.  You will return to Serengeti Migration Camp in time for sundowners and dinner

Here your stay is in a luxurious safari tent, on an all-inclusive basis. Serengeti Migration Camp is a real camp experience. It is next to the famous Grumeti River, home to wallowing hippos grunting away.

It has twenty luxurious elevated tents, each with spacious bedrooms. The camp blends into its environment. Each of the tents is surrounded by a deck, which brings game sightings and the constant sounds of the bush.

Day 8

Return to Arusha, Day room at Arusha Coffee Lodge

After breakfast explore along the banks of the Grumeti River on a guided game walk.

You then have a leisurely lunch and a game drive en route to the airstrip for your onward flight to Arusha. On arrival you will be met by a representative from Arusha Coffee Lodge and transferred to their lodge. A day room to freshen up and relax is available to you and then a transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight.

Extensions

In the event that you opt to spend an extra night at Arusha Coffee Lodge before your onward travel arrangements, your accommodation will be upgraded to a Plantation Suite and will be on an all-inclusive basis (includes all meals, drinks, laundry service, transfers, game drives and scheduled activities on day 8 and day 9).

You could also consider staying on for an extra night or two in the Serengeti, at Migration Camp.
