This is a great opportunity to trek the gorillas and hike the Bisoke. The Virunga volcanoes are a range of six extinct volcanoes and two active volcanoes (Congo). The Virunga volcanoes, with their high altitude vegetation zones are probably one of the most beautiful mountains in the world and a real paradise for hikers. Rwanda has 5 volcanoes, and the Bisoke (3,711 m) is an extinct volcano, with a beautiful crater lake with fantastic views in all directions. This tour will give you the chance to see some of the last remaining 700 mountain gorillas in the world and is a wonderful experience. You will crown the safari with a visit to the Genocide memorial site in the city of Kigali.

Trek the gorillas and hike to Dian Fossey’s grave. This is at the Karisoke Research Centre on the slopes of the Bisoke Volcano where she spent close to 20 years habituating, studying, and conserving the endangered mountain gorillas. She was murdered on the 27th of December 1985 at the Karisoke Research Centre and buried near Digit, her favourite gorilla. You will also have the chance to go gorilla trekking at Virunga amongst the lush volcanic slopes. This excursion is an incredible experience and very inspiring to learn about someone so dedicated to her work. This tour will start off in Kigali where you will visit the Genocide Memorial Centre and then on to the foothills of the Volcano to start your trekking adventure, visit the famous Dian Fossey Memorial and then a visit to the Iby Iwacu, a traditional village to learn about the local community’s way of life. This tour will end with a trip to the Genocide memorial centre, a truly emotional experience.
